I Kings 19:1-9 The wilderness is different from the valley, because time in the wilderness usually lasts a lot longer. I. Your deepest need becomes a gift, when it drives you to depend on God. All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again. I Kings 19:5b-6 Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is rest in the presence of God. Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is just take a breather, and let God restore your soul. He replied, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” 1 Kings 19:10 The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:11-12 The devil shouts his lies, but God whispers his truth. God doesn't shout to get your attention, he whispers to draw you close. The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Ps 34:18 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139:7-10
